Team Outing with the White Caps

Thinking back to to the early days of practice where it was just me working out of one room, I fondly remember the simplicity of it all. With that simplicity can come a feeling of isolation as well. I missed having colleagues to share the victories and struggles of the day to day that only people in the same environment would understand (or care about!).

FLOW is now comprised of a small but mighty team. We have a great rhythm in the office and have found to enhance that rhythm, it is important for us all to create the time outside of patient hours to be together. For any business owner or employee within a business, this is something I can’t emphasize the importance enough! For us, this has looked like:

  • Weekly One-on-Ones where as the owners of the practice, Dr. Eric and myself meet with both Natalie and Dr. Gabby individually.

  • Monthly Office Meetings where we get lunch together and celebrate our wins and discuss how we can improve the way the office runs.

  • Team Outings where we try to avoid talking about work at all and find something fun to do together, many times involving our significant others!

Our most recent team outing to the West Michigan White Caps baseball game was inspired by the current book we are discussing at our monthly meetings. We have been working our way through Fans First: Change The Game, Break the Rules & Create an Unforgettable Experience which was written by Jesse Cole, the owner of the Savannah Bananas baseball team. He is fanatical about fandom and has shared his secrets that any industry can implement to creating a memorable experience for your fans.

Our evening out together was everything we hoped it would be, even the rain during the 8th inning made for a few laughs. We had fantastic seats behind home plate (good work on that Eric!) so that we were front and center to the action. The only baseball team hat I own is a Cubs hat, and ironically, the White Caps were playing the South Bend Cubs, which are the high-A affiliate to the Chicago cubs. I was still rooting for our home team, the White Caps, who ended up winning 3-2 after giving up a home run at the top of the 9th. That sounded like I knew a lot about baseball, huh? Well, in all transparency, Eric gave me a play by play because it was that moment I had decided I needed a bathroom break. Eric also found out the origins of the 7th Inning Stretch. Hint, it has something to do with President Taft who we found out last night is Chris’ (Natalie’s husband) least favorite president. Ah yes, that is the purpose of these outings, isn’t it? To learn new things about each other?! As far as marketing goes though, it would be kinda fun to check into sponsoring the 7th Inning Stretch, seems appropriate for a Chiropractic Office, doesn’t it?

Thank you to Gabby, Trevor, Natalie, and Chris for joining Eric and I for a night out! We are already plotting our Fall outing and it will probably have something to do with a Haunted House…
