Chiropractic for Postpartum

Postpartum is a crucial time for connection and wellbeing for mom and baby. Chiropractic care in the postpartum period can help support women with postpartum healing as well as address issues related to repetitive positions such as holding and carrying a growing baby, breast and/or bottle feeding, bending to place baby on the floor or in a crib, stooping over a bathtub, transporting baby in a carrier, carseat, or stroller, and so much more!

The first postpartum visit typically takes place within 2-4 weeks of delivery, however, we have some patients who stop by our office on their way home from the hospital! We also provide a home visit service on a case by case basis.

At the first postpartum visit, your doctor will listen to your birth story and what demands you have placed on your body since delivery to fully understand your healing needs. The examination will include an assessment of the muscles of your core to know if there is a diastasis rectus present as well as questions about your pelvic floor to appropriately refer out for treatment with a Pelvic Floor PT if needed (Make sure to ask your OB or Midwife during your last prenatal visit or at your 6 week follow up for a physical therapy referral!).

Treatment during the postpartum time may include gentle chiropractic, rehabilitation exercises based on the Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) strategies for training foundational movements, and recommendations to support adequate nourishment.
