Mercier Therapy

What is Mercier Therapy:

Mercier Therapy is a deep, visceral mobilization therapy technique used to help restore the health and general well being within the female pelvis and abdominal organs. As restrictions are relieved and movement is enhanced, the organs and surrounding structures optimize their natural functions. Mercier Therapy sessions sessions are 45-60 minutes in length. The protocol is recommended at a frequency of once weekly for six weeks, but this is also considered on a case by case basis depending on your goals and timeline.

When is Mercier Therapy Utilized:

For fertility support, Mercier Therapy can be used as a stand alone regime, in conjunction with Functional Medicine and/or Chiropractic Care, or in preparation for a medically assisted cycle such as IUI or IVF. We believe that preparing your body for conception in either instance is an important piece of your fertility journey. Mercier Therapy cannot not be performed if you are taking medications to stimulate your ovaries for an egg retrieval. Medications such as Femara and Clomid also have a stimulating effect on the ovaries, and therefore while taking those medications, Mercier Therapy cannot be performed.

For pelvic pain, Mercier Therapy can be utilized and may be recommended alongside pelvic floor physical therapy and chiropractic care. Pelvic pain can occur within the structures surrounding the female reproductive organs such as the reproductive organs, urinary bladder, bowel, musculature, ligaments Mercier Therapy cannot be performed on women who have an IUD or a female sterilization device such as an Essure.

For postpartum or post surgical healing, Mercier Therapy can be beneficial in the healing phase. Following vaginal delivery, Mercier Therapy can be started as early as eight weeks postpartum as long as postpartum bleeding has ended. Following surgery such as a cesarean section or laparoscopy procedure, Mercier therapy can be started as early as 12 weeks, as long as there is no infection present and any scabbing has fallen off.
